Main Research Interests

Parallel processing in cellular arrays, research and development of high-performance parallel architectures, application specific cellular arrays, database machines, interconnection networks, history of computers.

Professional Experience and Major Achivments

• Participated in several Russian projects concerned with design of supercomputers. Designed (in co-operation with Professor Leonid Kantorovich, Nobel Prize laureate) one of the first vector conveyor supercomputers.
• Proposed the Combined Architecture, a new approach to the organization of heterogeneous computing based on extensive exploiting of strongly specialized accelerators.
• Manager of a research group on parallel algorithms and architectures at the Novosibirsk Computing Center.
• Director of the research project "History of Computer Science in Russia" supported by the Russian Fund of Fundamental Research (grant # 96-06-80573).
• Member of Copernicus Network SEIHPC "Stimulation of European Industry through High Performance Computing".
• Reader of graduate courses "Introduction in Supercomputer Architecture", "Parallel Computing in Cellular Structures", etc., at the Novosibirsk State University and other Siberian Universities. Invited lecturer at the Loyola University (New Orleans, LA, USA, 1994), and Friedrich-Alexander University (Erlangen, Germany, 1992).
• Academic advisor to several Ph.D. theses in Computer Engineering at the Siberian Division of Russian Academy of Sciences.
• Author of more than 130 scientific publications in Computer Science and Technology including the recent book "Parallel Processing in Cellular Arrays" (Research Studies Press, Ltd., Taunton, UK. 1995).
• Editor of the Russian translation of E.Ozkarahan's book "Database Machines and Database Management" (Prentice-Hall, New Jersey, 1986. In Russian: Mir Publishers, Moscow, 1989).
• Author of numerous inventions in Computer Technology (patented in Russia and abroad).
