A Cultural program is planned for participants and accompanying persons. Yaroslavl contains one of the greatest architectural ensemble of ancient Russia. At present it houses the historical museum with more than two hundred thousand exhibits-icons, ancient manuscripts, miniatures, books, archaeological and numismatic finds.
Founded by Prince Yaroslav the Wise at the juncture of the upper Volga and Kotorosl rivers at the beginning of the 11-th century, Yaroslavl approaches its 1000-th anniversary as one of the great traditional centers of trade, culture and statecraft in the Russian heartland. As a stronghold of resistance against Mongol invasion, a temporary national capital during the 17-th century Time of Trouble, the site of an outstanding ensemble of early Russian church and secular architecture, the birthplace of Russian Theatre and the home of early Russia's first great historical literature monument "The Lay of Igor's Host".
